Bacchus and his Creatures.
Traditions and ancient wisdom alone are not enough to produce noble and precious wine. Today, traditional techniques that have been handed down for centuries must be combined with the latest findings in the grape-farming and wine-producing fields.
To ensure the highest quality possible, Terra Antica collaborates with one of the main experta in Sangiovese, the wine specialist
Paolo Vagaggini as well as with other external consultants of undisputed knowledge. We adopt farming techniques that are both
sustainable and eco-friendly to ensure that our products are of superior quality.
The vineyards are carefully attended to all throughout the year: from pruning to manuring and binding during the peak of the season. The grapes are rigorously hand picked during September and October, after which the fermenting must is repast over the grape dregs daily; the superior quality of our final product greatly depend on the frequency with which this operation is carried out. When the wine is drawn off the vat, it is separated from the marc and finally left to mature in wooden barrels, barriques or tonneaux, depending on the wine typology, for a minimum of two years for the
Nobile and three years for
Riserva. Terra Antica only adopts the cold-sterile bottling technique.
Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet are the real “gems” of Terra Antica’s vineyards.
Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG are obtained by blending the grapes from these famouse vineyards. Unione Italiana Vini, Camera di Commercio and Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are the certifying bodies for the high quality of our wines, which are subject to rigorous organoleptic tests at the moment of bottling.
Terra Antica yearly production consists of nearly 15,000 bottles, of which 30% is Rosso and 70% is Nobile; during the best vintages, part of the Nobile production is set aside for the production of Riserva. Our products are available on the
Italian and European market and are exported to the
United States and the
Far East.
For the production of
Grappa di Vino Nobile, widely appreciated by the experts for its unique bouquet and round flavour, Terra Antica uses the marc (the skin and peeps from the grapes), which is separated from the must and sent to the Bonollo distillery.
